 About

Who Are We?

We are The University of Nottingham's prestigious A Cappella Society. We formed in September 2014 and received Gold Star Society accreditation from the University's Student Union in both years of its existence. With over a hundred members we are looking to continue the fabulous work further and further every year.

With a passion for the ever-growing world of a cappella we are a fun, vibrant society with opportunities for everyone of any ability.

What's On Offer?

We work as an umbrella society, housing a range of different a cappella groups. We have auditioned and unauditioned groups, mixed-gender and single-gender, and a variety of musical genres aiming to cater to everyone's interests!

If there isn't a group that interests you, we both encourage and aid the formation of new groups! They can be any size, auditioned or non-auditioned and whatever genre takes your fancy. Just contact our Group Coordinator!

What's Coming Up?

Frequent socials, bookings for events, workshops and termly concerts keep our groups busy within the University. We also promote competitions for our groups; RadioOctave competed in the Voice Festival UK's semi-finals in April 2016, and we hope to see more groups entering next year!

Check-in with our Facebook page or email subscription for updates on what to look forward to! Or check out our Events page for a brief overview of upcoming events!

Founders' Notes

Benjamin Sim
As one of the founders of the A Cappella Society, there has never been a moment which I regretted my decision to champion it. In just a small span of time, we have already achieved incredible feats – staged performances on campus, in Nottingham city, and competed on a regional scale – and I am absolutely proud of them. It is with no doubt that I believe this is a great society, a dynamic society, and one that will continue successfully for the years to come. I invite everyone with a passion for singing to join us in this endeavour and contribute to making A Cappella Society bigger and better than it already is. I can guarantee that you will definitely have the best time of your university life with the society, just as I did.

Creating this society and RadioOctave have possibly been my greatest achievements to date. In my two years as a member, I have been gifted with two years of utter joy meeting and singing with unforgettable friends. I hope that the society will continue in the ethos in which it was formed: with its feet on the ground and its ears in the stars. It provides for all: nurturing new singers whilst challenging the incredible talent among our members, pushing for the highest quality we can offer!

Although the musical opportunities for students at UoN were really impressive when I arrived, there were students like me who were desperate for a society that would cater to singers with a greater interest in Pop and RnB. The Society gave me the opportunity to arrange music for performance, sing with some awesome and talented people, and develop organisational abilities (I’m still working on them…). Get involved, and remember – “If in doubt, sing out”

We’d love to hear from you!

Thank you! We'll get back to you as soon as possible.
